International theatre companies from around the globe prepare to take the Astor stage.

Liverpool, Nova Scotia The countdown is on for the 17th Biennial Liverpool International Theatre Festival (LITF), returning October 14–18, 2026. This year’s festival will welcome nine competitive international theatre companies, along with a special non-competitive film presentation from Uganda, bringing stories, cultures, and theatrical traditions from around the world to the Astor Theatre.

“One of the things that makes LITF so special is the commitment these troupes make to be here,” said Deborah Raddall, Marketing Chair for LITF 2026. “Some companies are travelling more than 11,000 kilometres to perform in Liverpool. It’s incredible to think that artists from around the world choose our community to share their work. Audiences can experience world-class theatre and discover different cultures without ever leaving Nova Scotia.”

The 2026 lineup features companies from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands, México, Wales, Egypt/Canada, and Italy/London, presenting a diverse collection of comedies, dramas, physical theatre, and contemporary works. The festival also includes a special film presentation, The Pursuit, by Ushindi Community Theatre of Kasangati, Uganda.

The best way to experience LITF is with a Stage & Beyond Pass, which includes all competitive performances, Coffee Critiques with the adjudicator, Festival Club entertainment, reserved seating at the Opening Ceremonies and Closing Awards Presentation.

Stage & Beyond Passes are available now through the Astor Theatre Box Office, online through the Astor Theatre, and at LITF.ca.

The full festival schedule will be released in the coming weeks, with individual performance tickets going on sale then.
