Silence squeaky floors!

Noise pollution is a real thing. Pour baby powder onto your wooden floor and sweep it into the cracks to quiet creaking floorboards. Wipe away the excess and enjoy the sounds of silence.

Fight musty smells!

Just like in the fridge, an open box of baking soda placed near your sheets and towels can prevent a musty smelling linen closet.

Skip bar soap at the sink!

Keep your bathroom cleaner longer by using a liquid soap with a pump or even a hands-free soap dispenser instead. Eliminating the grimy soap dish will help your sink and counter top stay goop-free.

Scoop up pet hair with a rubber glove!

After you’re through washing dishes, don’t remove your damp gloves. Take a detour through the living room and quickly pick up scattered fur.

Erase greasy stains on clothes!

Spot salad dressing on your shirt? Rub a little dish detergent into the stain and rinse with water. The soap is gentle enough for spot-treating most fabrics — even washable wool and silk.

Soften fuzzy towels.

If you’ve got hard water, mineral buildup could be the cause of your scratchy towels. To lift deposits, wash the towels in the hottest water possible and add 1 cup of ammonia and nothing else.

Greasy carpet!

Hard-to-remove grease stains on your carpet can be shifted by sprinkling cornmeal or baking soda onto the stain, and then brushing lightly through the carpet pile. Leave overnight and vacuum up the next morning. This process may need to be repeated once or twice.

No ring around the collar

Try using your shampoo to remove ring around the collar. Since the ring is usually caused by oil, dirt and grime that gathers around the neck, shampoo – which is made to remove body oils – should remove it from clothing too. Just apply the shampoo, gently scrub, then stick it in the washing machine.

Dust-free TV!

When dusting your television or venetian blinds, use a soft cloth that has been dampened with fabric softener – this will reduce the static that attracts dust.

No more inky-hands!

Living with a pint-sized artist can be messy! Remove ink from skin by smearing the area with a small amount of margarine and wiping off with a damp cloth. Now you see it, now you don’t!

Medicine safety

Teach the kids about the dangers of medicines by drawing a big red cross on all pills and potions that can be dangerous in the wrong (little) hands. That way the kids will be able get to the bandaids with ease, and steer clear of bottles and boxes marked with a big red ‘X’.

Smelly drains fix

A stinky drain can make your whole kitchen smell like a garbage dump! To neutralize the odour, first make a watery baking soda paste to put down the drain – the baking soda will break down any food scraps that are hanging onto your pipes.  Leave it there for about an hour and then mix a jug of hot water with 3-4 teaspoons of vanilla essence. Throw that down the sink and you’ll have a sweet-smelling kitchen just like that!

A good way to help lose weight: Cook with coconut oil!

Coconut oil is very healthy. It is high in special fats called medium chain triglycerides which are metabolized differently than other fats.

These fats have been shown to boost metabolism by 120 calories per day and also reduce your appetite so that you eat up to 256 fewer calories per day.

Keep in mind that this is not about adding coconut oil on top of what you’re already eating, it is about replacing some of your current cooking fats with coconut oil.

A good way for saving money: Invite friends over instead of going out!

Going out to eat or “out on the town” has a way of completely destroying both your food budget and your entertainment budget in one fell swoop. And no matter what, it is always cheaper to stay in with friends and come up with your own entertainment.

Instead of hitting the town, host a fun pitch-in dinner with your friends. Play cards, sit around a fire pit or watch movies with your guests. You’ll all save money – and have a blast.

Use salt to prevent stains!

While a stain is still fresh, pour table salt on it. It will help soak up the stain and make it easier to wash out.

Make a natural whitener!

For yellowed white laundry or linens, make a natural lemon whitener. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a gallon of hot water in a laundry bucket. Let the item soak for one to two hours. Run through a rinse cycle or rinse by hand, then hang out on the clothesline to dry.

How to clean marble?

Clean marble regularly by using a soft cloth or sponge with a mild solution. Do not use lemon, vinegar, or any other acidic cleaner; it will eat into the marble. Remove stains with a marble polishing powder such as tin oxide.

How to get rid of fissures or cracked heels on your feet?

3 tbsp of baking soda

4 cups of milk

Warm the milk and then add the baking soda. Mix the ingredients and then transfer the mixture into a pedicure bowl and soak your feet in it for 10 minutes. Next, rinse them with cold water. After only one use, you will be able to wear your favorite sandals without worrying about your cracked heels.

A simple way to de – stress!

When you’re stressed, try eating 1 cup of low fat yogurt or 2 tablespoons of mixed nuts. The amino acids in the yogurt or nuts will help calm you down.
