Province Asking Nova Scotians To Support Local, Take Precautions
As the province prepares to reopen much of the economy Friday, Premier Stephen McNeil and Dr Robert Strang are reminding people that the requirement to maintain six feet of distance from others hasn’t changed.
Strang says those rules apply when shopping in stores or seated in restaurants.
“So while people may be at tables up to groups of ten, unless they can be separated by six feet while they’re at that single table, which is not likely, they have to be people from the same household or same household bubble.”
Strang says we’re not ready yet to have multiple households sit together at a single table.
He says business will have to follow the plans their industries have developed in consultation with public health officials.
He says the public has been very good about maintaining social distancing when parks and beaches were reopened and he expects that will continue as businesses open their doors as well.
“As we get out more into social settings, as we open up retail spaces and bring people back to work, I think the majority of Nova Scotians understand and have an expectation of each other and the people that are running those various settings, of working together to maintain safety.”
Premier McNeil spoke about the need to get Nova Scotians back to work.
“I know many of you are nervous, but we have to get our economy moving again. We are taking it slow, we are reducing capacity and protocols will be in place and we need everyone to follow them.”
The Premier also assured Nova Scotians testing will continue and if they see any indication the number of cases is beginning to spike, the province will take action.
He asks people to get out this weekend and support their local economy.
“What’s really important is for all of you to support your local businesses. They need you and they want to welcome you back. So think local, buy local, support local. That makes us Nova Scotia strong and Nova Scotia proud.”
