LRHS seeking proper running track

The Liverpool Regional High School is looking to do a big upgrade to their track and field abilities.

The school is looking to put in a proper four lane running track around the soccer field so student can train at their school. Vice principal Todd Symes says at present students either use the bus lanes or travel out of the county at their own expense to train.

“The frustrating part was we have to allow to take these athletes to train out of the Region because they have no where to put there starting blocks,” he said. “South Queens Middle School is in a similar situation, where they went to regionals and provincials last year, but had no where to train.”

Symes was in council on Nov. 27, asking for support from the Region of Queens Municipality to provide a quarter of the total cost to plan out a running track. The cost is around $16,000, with half coming from the province and the other quarter coming from the school board. He estimated the total cost to build the track is around $200,000.

The plan is in the early stages but School Health Promoter Sarah Murphy says this track will provide great health benefits to our community while also Providing the students with a great place to train.
