Plaque dedicated to longtime Advance owner

If you are passing by the former Queens County Advance building in Liverpool, you may notice a plaque dedicated to one of its former editors.

Cecil Day was a longtime editor of The Advance, and owned the newspaper from 1937 to 1968 where he won many awards for his work.

Beverly Burlock, daughter of Cecil Day, said she wanted to do something to honour her father. She says he isn’t well known in the community anymore, despite the number of years he spent in the community. When the building was sold and the newspaper shut down, she contact the new owner of the building to put on a plaque dedicated to her late father.

A dedication ceremony was held in mid-September, where former employees under Day, former employees of The Advance and Burlock were in attendance among others.
