New food guide does away with servings
Canada has a new food guide, and one that is quite different from any previous versions.
The new guide, released on Tuesday, does away with recommended daily servings. Instead the guide is more general, suggesting eating plenty of vegetables and fruits, whole grain foods and protein. The guide has a visual representation of a plate, with half filled with vegetables and fruits.
And the drink of choice? That would be simply water.
In creating the guide, Health Canada used scientific reports on food and health, but excluded those that were commissioned by specific industries. They also studied food guides from around the world, and found an emphasis on fresh unprocessed food were more successful than daily servings
