Curl for Cancer back to have fun for a serious cause
The annual Curl for Cancer is returning next month, raising money to help fight a disease that has affected so many.
Meghan MacAdams is in her third year organizing the event, and is hoping to raise $6,000 this year. This year the event is on Feb. 9, staring at noon at the Liverpool Curling Club.
Though the overall goal is to help support cancer causes, where the money goes can very. In the past the money has gone to the lodge that gives, camp goodtime, and cancer connection where survivors and current patients can meet and talk. This year the funds are going towards lung cancer research.
MacAdams says it is important to support cancer research to raise awareness and find a cure because of how many people it can affect.
“I do feel that cancer is something that affects everybody,” said MacAdams. “We all know at least one individual who has had it.”
Though the money is going to a serious cause, MacAdams said the day itself is meant to be a fun way to raise money. Curling experience is not necessary, just a willingness to have fun. Along with curling, there will be raffles on various items donated by the community and the curling club will be serving refreshments.
