Queens author pens book on effects of depression
A local woman has published her first novel, which deals with postpartum depression, the challenges it brings and recovery.
Sandra Saulnier say while the book is a work of fiction, she drew on her own experiences battling depression 15 years ago to write a story that she hopes will both be interesting and helpful to others.
Lost in Grey follows the story of Tess, through her ups and downs, and the events both good and bad that happen as she tries to navigate through her depression.
Saulnier says she wanted to write the book because while the stigma surrounding mental health is lessening, it’s still something not enough people talk about.
“They don’t know if they can talk to somebody, they don’t know who to go to,” she says. “They end up hurting themselves because they think there is something wrong.”
Lost in Grey is Saulnier’s first book, although she says writing is something she’s done as long as she has been able to hold a pencil. For the book she went through Amazon’s self publishing process, which makes the book available to a wider audience. In addition to amazon, a hard copy of the book will soon be available at the Thomas H. Raddall Library in Liverpool.
