Region of Queens by-laws ready for cannabis

With cannabis legalization across the country just around the corner the Region of queens is ready, at least policy wise.

Mayor David Dagley said the municipality updated their by-laws over the past year to include wording to ban cannabis inside municipal owned buildings and vehicles.

For now the Region of Queens cannabis policy will mirror their tobacco policy, which in addition to being banned indoors, smokers must be at least four meters away from entrances, windows and building ventilation areas.

Where cannabis use is a new issue, Mayor Dagley says they will see how the rules evolve in other jurisdictions as well, which may mean changes in the future if needed.

So far the strictest policy in Nova Scotia is in Halifax, which has implemented a full ban on all smoking and vaping on municipal property. This includes sidewalks and parks, except in designated areas. At this time Mayor Dagely says they do not have plans to do the same
