Queens Manor Purchases New Bus After Generous Donation

We are here today thanks to the kind and generous heart of the late Joyce Bledsoe. Joyce’s father and mother (Orrin and Jennie Conrad) lived here at Queens Manor when the Manor first opened. Joyce’s uncle also became a resident here later in his life. As a result, Joyce Bledsoe was a frequent visitor to Queens Manor during those early years and became very appreciative of the care we provided to her beloved family.

Joyce developed a fond relationship with our recently retired Director of Recreation, Tara Smith, and she kept in touch with Tara long after her parents and uncle passed away.

To say that we are appreciative of this significant donation to Queens Manor would be an understatement. Like other long-term care facilities, we are being challenged to continuously do more with less.

Just five months ago, our van, that was the only way a majority of our sixty-one residents could get out into the community, drove its last mile. It was difficult to wrap our heads around the fact that we simply did not have the funds to replace it. We had reluctantly resigned ourselves to this new reality for our residents.

But Joyce’s significant estate donation to Queens Manor resulted in the Board of Directors quickly agreeing that the purchase a new van would be an appropriate use of this generous donation, combined with other donations from members of our wonderful community.
It is important for us to remember and appreciate Joyce’s acknowledgement of the good work we all strive to do here in support of our residents. This donation is recognition of the work of all former and current staff and volunteers at Queens Manor.

I am pretty confident that our new van (that I am going to refer to as “Bledsoe” from this point forward), will results in thousands of smiles on the faces of our current residents, and those who will become residents in the coming years. As I indicated at the outset, we are sincerely grateful at being remembered. So today, I hope all will join me in remembering Joyce Bledsoe with sincere gratitude. Her donation will make our residents a part of the community again. Thanks Joyce!
