(Rick Conrad)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Region of Queens is about to announce who its new top staffer will be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Councillors will publicly appoint the region\u2019s new chief administrative officer at a special meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regionofqueens.com\/~documents\/route%3A\/download\/4023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a staff report<\/a>, acting municipal clerk Heather Cook says more than 40 applications for the job were received from across Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shortlisted candidates went through two interviews with the region\u2019s CAO selection committee. That committee included Mayor Scott Christian, and councillors Maddie Charlton, Stewart Jenkins and Courtney Wentzell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qccrfm.com\/news\/2024\/12\/16\/region-of-queens-fires-top-staffer-cao-cody-joudry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillors fired the previous CAO Cody Joudry<\/a> in mid-December. No reason was given for his dismissal. Joudry was on the job for just over a year, hired in September 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dan McDougall has filled in as interim CAO since Joudry was fired.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The region\u2019s new CAO is set to start the job in mid-June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><br \/>\nQueens councillors<\/strong> are also back to budget discussions on Tuesday evening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This will be the third public meeting about the 2025\/26 budget.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Councillors began their budget deliberations on April 24 by looking at capital and infrastructure spending. Last week, they tackled the operating budget.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Tuesday evening, they\u2019ll address issues that came up in the first two meetings, as well as any other changes or requests from councillors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qccrfm.com\/news\/2025\/04\/30\/region-of-queens-has-surplus-in-hand-as-it-looks-at-relief-for-low-income-residents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayor Scott Christian told QCCR last week<\/a> that the region has about a $1-million surplus from 2024\/25. But he said the specific surplus won\u2019t be known until finance staff go through the final numbers and release the audited figures later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents or the media were not provided with draft budget documents as they were last year.
