District 2 Coun. Maddie Charlton is the new deputy mayor for the Region of Queens.<\/p>\n

Councillors voted for Charlton, who was the only nominee, at Tuesday’s meeting, the first since the Oct. 19 municipal election.<\/p>\n

Charlton’s term as deputy mayor is for two years. She won’t get a raise, though she will be compensated at the mayor’s rate of pay while she acts as mayor.<\/p>\n

Scott Christian presided over his first council meeting as the region’s new mayor. Charlton was re-elected to council, as were Jack Fancy and Vicki Amirault. New councillors are Courtney Wentzell, Stewart Jenkins, Wanda Carver and Roberta Roy.<\/p>\n

Region of Queens councillors make $20,865 annually, while the mayor makes $41,730.<\/p>\n
