Several crews responded to a Forest Fire outside Milton on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Trucks were dispatched from Liverpool, North Greenfield and Port Medway to put out five hectares along the power lines around 1:30pm.<\/p>\n
Thirty local firefighters were joined by nine personnel and a helicopter from the Department of Lands and Forestry.<\/p>\n
Crews had to use ATVs to reach the fire, which was burning approximately three kilometres from the Mersey Lodge.<\/p>\n
John Long, a Captain with the Liverpool Fire Department says he wasn\u2019t clear what caused the fire but the high power lines overhead could have been involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes it happens, a tree just touches a wire. I didn\u2019t hear of any power outages so I wouldn\u2019t say any lines broke. Sometimes that happens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Long says the fire was knocked down early Sunday evening and crews left the scene around 8:00pm.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the Department of Lands and Foresty says the cause of the fire is still unknown.<\/p>\n
The department is reminding people that a \u201cNo Burn\u201d restriction on open fires is in effect to protect Nova Scotia\u2019s forests during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
Open domestic fires are prohibited for any purpose in woods or within 1,000 feet of woods in any part of the province and will be enforced until May 15, 2020.<\/p>\n
