A 59-year-old woman is safe and sound after the truck she was in drove into the Mersey River.<\/p>\n
Queens District RCMP members responded to a call at 10:20 Sunday morning that a pick-up truck had driven off of Highway 8 into the Mersey River, near Milton.<\/p>\n
The 65-year-old male driver of the vehicle was able to swim to shore, however, the 59-year-old female passenger was not and had difficulty keeping her head out of the water.<\/p>\n
RCMP members, EHS and the volunteer fire department quickly assessed the situation and determined the female passenger\u2019s condition was worsening due to the cold water.<\/p>\n
An RCMP member tied a rope around his waist and swam out to the woman using a paddle board from a nearby residence.<\/p>\n
The RCMP member and woman were pulled to shore by the other first responders.<\/p>\n
The woman and the driver of the vehicle were transported to hospital where the woman was treated with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.<\/p>\n
