Canada Day festivities are moving to the small screen this year.

Fireworks and other large gatherings across the country have been called off due to COVID-19 precautions.

Manager of Events, Promotions and Sponsorships for the Region of Queens Steve Burns says while their annual fireworks display had to be cancelled, residents can still enjoy the shows online.

“The Canada Day fireworks, they’re being promoted at 10:00pm through use of your tablets and your phones. And all the information on these events can be garnered again through Heritage Canada.”

Heritage Canada is also providing musical performances by artists from coast to coast.

Burns says Queens residents can also enjoy entertainment closer to home, with online performances from Halifax’s Citadel Hill featuring Joel Plaskett, Classified and Reeny Smith among others.

He says the municipality is working to get the word out to people about some of the events they can enjoy this Canada Day.

“We’ve been promoting this, for the last, probably three weeks through the events Liverpool Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram and now just recently, through the Region of Queens sites. It’s been clear for a while how things were going to proceed.”

Burns says people will need to be creative and find new ways to celebrate Canada Day this year, safely, with friends and family.
