{"id":1943,"date":"2019-02-05T13:17:09","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T17:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.qccrfm.com\/news\/?p=1943"},"modified":"2019-02-05T13:17:09","modified_gmt":"2019-02-05T17:17:09","slug":"rcmp-tips-to-protect-your-home-while-on-vacation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qccrfm.com\/news\/2019\/02\/05\/rcmp-tips-to-protect-your-home-while-on-vacation\/","title":{"rendered":"RCMP tips to protect your home while on vacation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the dreary weather setting in for Canada, and six more weeks of winter predicted by Lucy the Lobster, many Canadians are flying south for a relaxing getaway.<\/p>\n<p>To protect your home while you are away, the RCMP have released a few tips to keep your house secure.<\/p>\n<p>Theses include making sure all entrances and windows are locked, avoid hiding spare keys nearby, and asking a neighbor, family member or friend to check on your home.<\/p>\n<p>They also say although vacations are exciting, it is better avoid posting your vacation plans and waiting until you return to post your snapshots, so criminals don\u2019t know your house is empty.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of tips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure all doors and windows are locked, including your garage door, shed, and basement windows.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid leaving spare keys &#8220;hidden&#8221; under a mat or under a rock. Burglars know about this trick and a key gives them easy access.<\/li>\n<li>Ask a trusted neighbour, family member or friend to check on your home while you\u2019re away.<\/li>\n<li>Set timers on lights inside and outside of your home and on electronics like a radio or television. Timers help give the impression that someone is home.<\/li>\n<li>Arrange to have your driveway cleared of snow while you\u2019re away.<\/li>\n<li>If you have any cash, jewellery or any other valuables in your home, store them in a safety deposit box.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that your home security system is on and provide the code to a family member or trusted friend so that they do not set off the alarm when they check on your home.<\/li>\n<li>Never announce your vacation dates on social media and avoid posting your holiday pictures until you return home so criminals don\u2019t know your house is empty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the dreary weather setting in for Canada, and six more weeks of winter predicted by Lucy the Lobster, many Canadians are flying south for a relaxing getaway.
